Heritage accommodation · Est. 1882
Mud brick, volcanic stone, and original timber — on the Maniototo plain above Waipiata. The Otago Rail Trail passes right through.
The Lodge
Built in 1882 of mud brick and volcanic rock, Peter's Farm Lodge has been carefully restored without losing what makes it special. The H.E. Shacklock Orion coal range still glows in the living room. Original fireplaces remain in all four bedrooms. Six-inch native timber floors run throughout. The formal lounge retains its original wallpaper — and there's still a meat safe in the kitchen.
Comfortable, affordable, and genuinely historic.
Otago Rail Trail
Waipiata sits at the heart of the Otago Central Rail Trail — one of New Zealand's Great Rides. Peter's Farm Lodge is set up for cyclists: secure bike storage, drying facilities, and local knowledge on every section of the trail.
